"Village Homes: A Radical Plan" celebrates the 50th anniversary of an innovative west Davis neighborhood community. Curated by Professor Timothy McNeil and guest curator Adrienne McGraw, the installation showcases the vision, concepts, and development behind the project and its goals. The exhibition runs Jan. 20 through June 19 in the UC Davis Design Museum.
Tucked away among green pathways, fruit trees and vineyards is a planned community ahead of its time in sustainability and intentional living. Fifty years after its groundbreaking, Village Homes still stands out as a model for sustainable, intentional living.
In this stunning student curated and designed exhibition, pieces from Maria Manetti Shrem's private art collection are experienced in new ways — none of them wrong! Not only does the exhibition, "Light into Density: Abstract Encounters 1920s–1960s," feature abstract paintings by renowned artists, it seeks to expand how viewers see and interpret artwork. On view at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art through May 5.
Since the first iteration of “Design in Europe," a study abroad program at UC Davis, students have kept visual journals of their travels – six to eight pages per day – that are a mix between a scrapbook, sketchbook, travelogue, collage and diary. The journals have been exhibited in Iceland, Scotland, England and the Netherlands. Now, for the first time, these journals are being exhibited all together right here in Davis, Calif.
