Associate Professor Bettina Ng’weno Wins Mentoring Award

Bettina Ng'weno

Associate Professor Bettina Ng’weno, Department of African American and African Studies, has been honored with this year's Distinguished Graduate and Postdoctoral Mentorship Award from UC Davis Graduate Studies and the Graduate Council.

These awards shine a light on the power of mentorship in shaping the academic and professional journeys of UC Davis graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Professor Jason DeJong, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, also won the award.

Each recipient will receive a $1,000 award and a letter of recognition. Additionally, an allocation of $10,000 in Wakeham Mentoring Fellowship funds is available to each recipient to be distributed among their students as professional development stipends, including support for travel to professional conferences.

Ng’weno is an anthropologist working on issues of space, property, social justice, citizenship, cities, states, race and ethnicity within Latin America, Africa and the Indian Ocean region.

This isn't her first time winning teaching and mentoring awards at UC Davis. She has previously won this award as well as the ASUCD Excellence in Education Award and Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award for Undergraduate Teaching in L&S.
