'New Humans: Memories of the Future' is on exhibit through Aug. 30
Beatriz Cortez’s The Fortune Teller (Nomad Edition) is on display at the New Museum in New York City as part of “New Humans: Memories of the Future”, now through Aug. 30. The show aims to highlight the recurrence of collective fears of and aspirations for new technologies as they arrive with the immense potential to shape, or even dominate,
human life.
The exhibition traces a diagonal history of the past 100 years through the work of more than 200 international artists, writers, scientists, architects and filmmakers, highlighting key moments when dramatic technological and societal changes spurred new conceptions of humanity and new visions for its possible futures. It is the first exhibition to span the entirety of the expanded New Museum, which is exclusively devoted to contemporary art.
The Fortune Teller (Nomad Edition) is shown alongside works by Sophia Al-Maria, Lucy Beech, Meriem Bennani, Cyprien Gaillard, Pierre Huyghe, Tau Lewis, Daria Martin, Wangechi Mutu, Precious Okoyomon, Berenice Olmedo, Philippe Parreno, Hito Steyerl, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Andro Wekua and Anicka Yi.
