Over the past several months, thousands of UC advocates have spoken up for California research. Together, we sent nearly 14,000 emails to lawmakers, rallied at the State Capitol, and helped make research a statewide priority.
That advocacy made a difference.
Yesterday, the Assembly Appropriations Committee advanced SB 895, the California Science and Health Research Bond Act, to the Assembly floor. We are grateful to Senator Scott Wiener for his continued leadership and to lawmakers for keeping this important proposal moving forward.
This is a significant step forward, made possible by an extraordinary statewide coalition of researchers, students, patients, workers, higher education, business leaders and other advocates. But our work is not finished.
