We are very sad to share news of the passing of Stanley Sue at the age of 80. Sue was a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at UC Davis. He was a trailblazer in the field of ethnic minority psychology. He worked tirelessly to expand psychological services to underserved populations and was known as a powerful advocate for social justice.
Professor Sue’s research and contributions inform today’s work in Asian American psychology and mental health, racial/ethnic relations and cultural competence in clinical work. His authoritative publication in the American Psychologist, “Science, Ethnicity and Bias: Where Have We Gone Wrong,” is one of the most highly cited publications in the professional literature. Professor Sue’s excellence in teaching and student mentoring were recognized with multiple awards across his career. Even after his retirement, Professor Sue continued to serve his professional community.
Our hearts go out to Professor Sue’s wife Sophie, to his family, his friends and his colleagues. The Department of Asian American Studies has created a page of remembrance.
