Composer, performer and installation artist Raven Chacon, the winter quarter spotlight artist in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, will be giving a talk at UC Davis in February. Students will also be performing one of his pieces. Both events are free and open to the public.
The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies will bring Sacramento-based fiber artist Josh Faught and Los Angeles based curator Anne Ellegood to give free, public talks on campus at UC Davis in October.
Brooklyn based artists Marie Lorenz and Byron Kim will speak in Davis this April as part of The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies. The free, public events will be April 10 and April 24.
Torkwase Dyson, the winter quarter spotlight artist in The California Studio: Manetti Shrem Artist Residencies, is scheduled to speak on campus on Feb. 27. Dyson is a painter working across multiple mediums to explore the continuity between ecology, infrastructure and architecture.
Associate Professor of Art Beatriz Cortez's piece, "Stella XX (Absence)," is a steel sculpture representative of a stela, or ancient monolith. It serves as a monument to stelas taken from Mesoamerica while also exploring absence and what it evokes. The sculpture recently debuted at the Venice Biennale’s 60th International Art Exhibition "Foreigners Everywhere.”
UC Davis art professor Beatriz Cortez, a multidisciplinary artist and sculptor, has been invited to participate in the prestigious Venice Biennale arts and culture showcase, marking the first time in 40 years a current faculty member has been tapped for the honor.
