UC Davis Gorman Exhibition Spotlights Artworks by a Leader in Contemporary Native American Art

The Gorman Museum of Native American Art at University of California, Davis, presents a solo exhibition of works by Rick Bartow (1946-2016), a member of the Mad River band of the Wiyot Tribe, indigenous to Humboldt County in Northern California. Bartow primarily created pastel, graphite, and mixed media drawings, wood sculpture, acrylic paintings, drypoint etchings, monotypes and a small number of ceramic works. The installation showcases artworks created from 1979 to 2015. The exhibition runs through January 18.

Student Following in Her Grandfather’s Artistic and Academic Footprints 

Jada McCovey, a third-year Native American studies and environmental studies student, celebrates legacy of her grandfather, fellow UC Davis alum and artist George Blake. A transfer student, McCovey wanted to be closer to her family and study at her grandfather’s alma mater.
