Scholars in the Medieval and Early Modern Studies (MEMS) program are working to dispel the caricatures of this era by de-centering European history from the discourse and showing how, in fact, much of the world was experiencing acculturalization, or borrowing, adapting and mixing traits from various cultures.

L&S Research and Creative Activities in the Spotlight

The College of Letters and Science at UC Davis celebrated all things research at its first Research and Creative Activities Celebration, which was held this past week at the UC Davis Conference Center. The event showcased the breadth of academic activities occurring across the College of Letters and Science and its affiliated centers, with faculty presentations and panel discussions.

A Career Built in Deep Time

Over the course of her career, Distinguished Professor Isabel Montañez has created a research niche in the fields of geochemistry and paleoclimatology: applying an Earth systems science approach to recreate Earth from eons past. For her monumental work in the geology field, Montañez recently received the Geological Society of America’s Arthur L. Day Medal.
