Two exhibitions that invite visitors to reflect on the present by considering the past and our shared future are on view this fall at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at University of California, Davis. The exhibitions are on view through Nov. 29.
John Pascoe, executive associate dean emeritus of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, led the school's efforts to acquire more artists works, especially those depicting animals. Now, a nearly 7-foot steel sculpture of a horse by renowned sculptor Deborah Butterfield, coincidentally named "John," stands on a platform at the school’s Multi-Purpose Teaching Building in a large bay window looking toward the school’s William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at UC Davis has announced two new, timely exhibits opening along with the museum on Aug. 7. “OJO” and Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice will be on display until Dec. 1.
The multidisciplinary showcase is on view June 5–22 at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art and features graduate students in art history, art studio, comparative literature, design, English, environmental science and policy, music and performance studies.

These are some of the questions the Thinking Food at the Intersections: Justice and Critical Food Studies seeks to explore in "Imagining and Enacting Just Food Futures” on May 30 – 31. The colloquium will bring scholars, activists, artists and chefs together with students and community members for a sensory rich, immersive experience imagining the future of food.

In this stunning student curated and designed exhibition, pieces from Maria Manetti Shrem's private art collection are experienced in new ways — none of them wrong! Not only does the exhibition, "Light into Density: Abstract Encounters 1920s–1960s," feature abstract paintings by renowned artists, it seeks to expand how viewers see and interpret artwork.
