The Vaida Chair — the first endowed faculty position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy — was established with a $1.5 million estate gift from Michael L. Vaida, Ph.D. ’73, and his wife, Ester Vaida.
A chemist studying the cellular and molecular architecture underlying neurological diseases recently received an Incentives for Large Grant Award from the College of Letters and Science at UC Davis. The Incentives for Large Grant Awards program provides faculty with up to $80,000 in support over two years to pursue large grants of over $1 million.
Submissions are being accepted for the 2024 Maurice Prize for Fiction, a $10,000 award for the best novel written by a UC Davis graduate who has not yet published or been accepted for publication by the contest deadline. Submissions are limited to novels; no short story collections.
We are very sad to share news of the passing of Stanley Sue at the age of 80. Sue was a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at UC Davis. He was a trailblazer in the field of ethnic minority psychology. He worked tirelessly to expand psychological services to underserved populations and was known as a powerful advocate for social justice.
A $1.6 million Climate Action Seed Grant is funding a project to survey the landscape and plan climate resilience projects on Indian allotment lands. UC Davis has just appointed Ron Mangun and Amanda Guyer co-directors of the Center for Mind and Brain (CMB). As co-directors, they will lead the center for the next three years.
